One of a kind and very unique Steampunk design with black agate/druzy quartz silver and yellow gold pendant.
I always loved that Kohler commercial where the couple walks into an architect's office with a kitchen faucet, puts it on his desk and asks him to "design a house around this". For this pendant, Julie did exactly that to me, only with a strikingly beautiful polished black agate/druzy quartz gemstone that she found at the Tucson Gem Show last year. "Here. Design something around this." She didn't say to keep it simple, so I didn't.
I love the 1980's art style of "Steampunk". It is so me. Mechanical, Victorian, Purposeful, Whimsical, Detailed, with elements of both Art Nouveau and Modern Contemporary. This piece is quintessential Steampunk. And as a final detail, it can be fully disassembled and reassembled with a small screwdriver. The base is Sterling Silver, with an industrial finish. The plate holding the stone and the bail are recycled 10 Karat gold, rolled into sheet and cut/welded into shape, glass-bead blasted finish with high-polished edges. The screws are functional 14 karat, hand milled and also crafted from recycled gold. This pendant was my sincere pleasure to create.
We thought that the creative process was interesting and so documented the stages of construction.
